There is a scurrilous rumor going around Buffalo Gap that Bob is really a "cattalo" or a "beefalo," a cross between a buffalo and a Charolais. It will take a DNA test to be certain, but no one cares that much.

Her Majesty's Royal Navy no longer has much demand for the white pine masts which previously kept the town in business, and lumberman Mossom Boyd's 1893 attempts to cross cattle with bison are now all forgotten except for the mounted head of the "cattalo" hanging just inside the doors of the municipal building.
